There WAS a recount in 2012!

Approximately 330 people attended the 2012 Awards Dinner & Auction
As the end of the 2012 Awards Dinner and Auction neared, there was a mad scramble behind the scenes.

A small team of trusted helpers tried frantically to add up all the donations that had just come in. The goal was to announce a rough total of funds raised toward helping needy families before the event ended.

It was a lot to ask, and the team did a tremendous job, as always. Yet when a total of $70,000 was finally announced, we were surprised to be $10,000 short of our goal.

This initial rough count is never 100% perfect. It can't be when it has to be done in about 30 minutes. But it's usually gives us a pretty good ballpark figure to announce at the end of the event.

However, this year, a typical small mistake made a MUCH BIGGER DIFFERENCE than usual. There was a sizable 12-month recurring pledge for which we only counted one month.

In the days following the event, as we did our more thorough count, we were elated to discover this error, which made a DRAMATIC difference.

In actuality, over $88,000 was raised at the event, surpassing our goal of $80,000, and beating last year's total of $86,000.

This year's event was held at the Embassy Suites Hotel by the Portland Airport on October 14. It featured:

A silent auction.

A gourmet meal.

An new video.

A presentation from Amanda Fritz of the Portland City Council.

An awards presentation.
Volunteers Rudy & Betty Glasnapp and Leland and Joyce Friend were co-recipients of the 2012 Barbara Nelson Award.

Rudy & Betty for their service and innovation in developing the PACS Thrift Store model,

Leland and Joyce for their service and innovation in the PACS Food Pantry, helping to design the Choice Model we currently use (though sadly, they could not attend the presentation, due to illness).

Volunteers Russ & Mary Sichley received the Director's Award for serving the community through a whopping 50 years of volunteerism at PACS.

We want to thank each person involved for helping raise these critical funds to help needy families in Portland. We extend special thanks to Generations Retirement Communities and Adventist Medical Center for leading our team of sponsors for this event.
