Health Center Progress

The PACS Health Center project continues to move forward with facility renovations, benefiting most recently from a major grant of $75,000 from the Portland Development Commission (PDC).

Project manager Tim Zollbrecht helps pour concrete for the foundation.

The area for the building addition was excavated in February, thanks to a donation of services by John Jones Construction. The foundation was poured in April, and volunteers have nearly completed the removal of sheetrock and other interior debris from the existing facility.

Part of our volunteer demolition crew. Dave Stefonek, Rob White (PACS Board/Generations Retirement Communities), and Robert Hessong, D.D.S.

The next steps involve the last bits of interior demolition, then the removal of the brick wall on the front of the existing structure, which will open it up to the addition. Once that wall is gone, framing on the addition will commence and the building will begin to take it's new form.

The foundation is done, and interior demolition in the existing structure is close. Next, we take out that brick wall that separates the existing structure from the addition. Then we begin framing.

PACS already operates a primary care health clinic for low-income individuals in its current facility, which it shares with the Food Pantry and the Thrift Store's apparel department.

When complete, the Health Center will provides a dedicated health care facility at PACS, including expanded medical care, newly added dental care, and ophthalmology care for disadvantaged people in Portland. PACS is aiming for a launch date of February, 2018, with the possibility of opening sooner depending on contractor availability, and how quickly the organization can raise the final $72,000 needed to complete the project.

The Health Center has also received support from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, the Oregon Community Foundation, the Kaiser/Providence Clinic Initiative, Adventist Community Services, A-dec, Generations Retirement Communities, Adventist Health, and hundreds of other caring organizations and people.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

DONATE: obviously donations are critical to finishing this project. We have raised over $638,000 towards the initial dental campaign, and another $118,000+ towards the Health Center Top-Off Fund. We still need $72,000 to ensure we can stay on schedule through completion of the facility. Donate today, and choose Health/Dental Startup from the Fund category. Or you can mail your gift to 11020 NE Halsey St, Portland OR 97220. Make your check out to PACS and designate your gift to the "Health Center".

VOLUNTEER: skilled workers who can donate time or services to Health Center renvoations will help push this project forward quickly. Call project manager Tim Zollbrecht at 503.252.8500, ext. 111 if you have some time or a service you would like to donate.

Thank you so much!
